If you had a writing motto what would it be?
Keep moving.
Write, even if you're not working on what's next in the book. Go back and flesh out an earlier passage. Write a detailed description of a place or a person and put it on the shelf for later.

Where do you draw your inspiration?
No way to tell. I really started getting interested in news reporting during the Watergate hearings, which I listened to live when I was working as a house painter. Then I found an editor who would let me work as a freelancer and, after a couple of assignments, I begged him for a job and he said OK. That began a 35-year career in journalism.

What is one interesting fact about you?
My books are fiction. But the stories in my blog (michaelludden.net) are true, from scary moments in a room with Baby Doc Duvalier... to being stuck in a pitch-black barn full of elephants... to climbing into a cage with a mountain lion... to flying with the Blue Angels.

Have you learned anything from the self publishing process and would you do anything differently next time?
Find quality sources for everything you do... art, formatting, printing...
I would not do anything differently the next time around...

What has been your most successful marketing strategy?
Talk to people. Word of mouth is really helpful.

What is the best kept secret you have found in regard to indie publishing?
Haven't discovered any secrets. Write great books and let people know they're out there.
